Police have reacted to a video circulating in which a man was shot dead by alleged SARS officer. The video started with a scene where some young men were being held at gun point by some men in police uniform. Next to come into the picture was a police officer who was dragging a man dressed in white top and trouser. Moments later, a shot rang out and the new entrant (the man being dragged by the police officer) went down apparently after a bullet hit him. It was not clear if the young man attempted to flee from the policemen when he was shot. The incident was reported to have occurred in Benin, Edo state capital. The IG only returned the unit to state commands. FSARS was not disbanded as contrived but simply drafted under the Police Commissioners. They would now be answerable to the commissioners of police in the states they are drafted. So basically, SARS is now back to being SARS, not FSARS anymore. The Acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the immediate disbandment of the Federal SARS, Special Investigation Panel and Special Tactical Squad. He announced this at his inaugural conference with Commissioners of Police and other senior officers in Abuja. Based on the new directive, the SARS will now be domiciled under the direct supervision of the Commissioners of Police in the 36 states. The IGP Special Investigation Panel and IGP Special Tactical Squad were established by the former IGP Ibrahim Idris, who also centralized the operations of SARS into Federal SARS.
